Difficult Conversations

At mediation it is common to see separated parties who can no longer communicate or have difficulty communicating.

Often they don’t want to sit in the same room for fear of being overborne or feeling overwhelmed. Sometimes just seeing the other party can bring back issues from the relationship or cause discomfort. The presence of a neutral third party at mediation can assist the parties to feel safe. Requiring each party to respect and listen to the other can help them communicate. Often a party just wants to be heard and the mediator has a role in providing that opportunity. The Mediator can also assist by acknowledging and normalising feelings and validating different parenting styles.

The Mediator can do much to help the parties deal with what are clearly difficult conversations.
