Pat is renowned as one of the founder of University based mediation training in Australia. He was a pioneer in the field and was mediating in a range of settings before mediation became accepted as a viable if not preferable means of dispute resolution. Not only is his knowledge of the discipline immense, but his larger than life examples and demonstrations to mediators and students alike are as famous as they are entertaining.

  • Assoc Professor of Law (Adjunct) at University of Queensland Law School with responsibility for undergraduate ADR and post graduate mediation skills and accreditation. Also, Assoc Professor at Bond University Business School (Adjunct) with responsibility for commercial negotiation programmes to MBA students and the private sector
  • Franchise Mediator for the Ray White Real Estate Group in Queensland since 2005
  • Barrister and Solicitor in the High Court of New Zealand specialising in civil litigation 
  • Senior Case Manager/Senior Mediator with Jakarta Initiative Task Force (2001-2003)
  • Senior Advisor to the National Mediation Centre from 2003-2004
  • Specialist Mediation Advisor to the Government of Indonesia
  • Member of Queensland Law Society Dispute Resolution Committee 1999-2001
  • Principal presenter “Commercial Negotiation Strategies for Lawyers” for Queensland Law Society
  • Principal of Negotiation and Mediation Services Pty Ltd
  • Dispute Manager with the Bar Association of Queensland 1990-1995
  • Executive Director of Queensland Settlement Week 1992-1995

  • Has conducted over 1000 mediations involving commercial disputes throughout Australia, New Zealand, Indonesia and elsewhere
